Contemplating your death can be a surprisingly helpful and powerful spiritual exercise. Have you ever tried it? There are various ways you can do this. One is to think about what you would most like to be remembered for. Another is to imagine what you would say to God about what you did with the life you were generously given.
Since we're in Advent, here is an exercise you might like to experiment with. We don't know when Jesus will return. It might be next week or it might be many centuries from now. Chances are you will die before Jesus returns. Again, none of us knows when we will die. It might be next week. It might be many years from now.
Imagine you knew that you would die exactly two years from today. How does it make you feel about how you've been living up until now? Would you do anything differently over the coming two years? What would make you feel more prepared for leaving this world and meeting Jesus?
