Traditionally Christians would think about "the four last things" over the four weeks of Advent. The Church would use this season to reflect on the realities of death, judgement, hell and heaven.
Does it seem morbid to you to think about these things? Does it seem strange to think about these things during a time which many see as a festive party season?
Can you see the importance or wisdom in thinking about these things as a means of preparation?
Many Christian spiritual writers over the centuries have considered it a powerful spiritual exercise to think about our death and ultimate future. It can help us to make good choices and live better lives. It can help us feel somewhat 'prepared' despite an uncertain future.
For today, simply notice how it feels to think about the reality of your own future death and judgement and immortal life? Does it feel weird? Exciting? Daunting? Comforting? Worrying? Sobering?
Remember Jesus words, "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God. Trust also in me." John 14:1
