There's another kind of waiting. A difficult kind of waiting. Perhaps you know someone who is waiting for test results, or waiting to hear back from an appeal. You might know someone who is waiting to be released from prison or from hospital, or who is waiting to be reunited with loved ones. There are many different 'difficult waiting' situations. You might be in a period of 'difficult waiting' yourself.
Sometimes we're waiting for God or waiting on God, but not always. Sometimes it's simply that God is waiting with us. God is always with us in our waiting.
The very act of waiting can help us to grow in dependence on God and intimacy with God. We may find the waiting difficult, and it may feel that nothing is happening at the moment, but don't underestimate how much God transforms us and helps us grow through periods of waiting.
Often the things we're waiting for are things that God is also keenly waiting for. God has to be patient too. Patience is one of God's characteristics. One of the fruits of the Spirit is patience.
Are you able to contemplate God's own patience?
Are you able to take comfort in God waiting with you at the moment?
Are you able to be alongside someone you know who is going through a period of difficult waiting at the moment?
