ADVENT CALENDAR: DEC 3RD

Does it ever occur to you that God gets excited about you? God gets excited to see your personality and gifts and passions at play. God gets excited to see how you'll respond to the love God lavishes on you. God gets excited to see how you'll respond to the offer of transformation and relationship with the Trinity made available to us through Jesus.

God's eagerness always outweighs our own! There's a beautiful prayer we use in the Church of England that puts it like this:

You are always more ready to hear than we to pray,
and to give more than either we desire or deserve.

Advent is seen as a time of us waiting for God but the reality is that God is usually the one waiting for us!

There are several passages in the Bible that show us how, because God never forces us, God waits patiently for us to choose to 'be in touch'. God waits patiently for us to open our hands enough to receive what God has for us.

In the parable of the prodigal son, Jesus gives us the image of a loving God who waits patiently and hopefully for us to be back 'in touch' and who gets overjoyed when we do approach Him.

Next time you pray, can you pause to think about how excited God is about having this quality time with you?

Would you 'stand up' a friend who you knew was excited to see you? Do you ever 'stand God up'?

What do you feel God might be waiting for from you?
